"The staff involved were superb"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Occupational Therapy General practices in Lanarkshire University Hospital Monklands / Emergency Department

(as a service user),

I was diagnosed with 'stress at work' in January 2025. I have very rarely ever been off work sick.

Late in 2024 I was referred to Monklands Hospital on two separate occasions for chest pains / shortness of breath and joint pain. However no acute issues were found despite numerous tests being taken.

The staff involved were superb. I therefore after several months of continuing symptoms decided to visit my GP. She took her time to ask questions and I got the diagnosis of 'stress at work ' (a total shock to me as I thought I was too resilient for that) and was told that it significant and I needed time off work. I was somewhat resistant to this but when speaking to the GP further I appreciated that she was 100% right.

I was also referred to the OT at the surgery, Shirley. This was a game changer. Shirley took a lot of time with my talking me through how to apply CBT type techniques as tools to address my stress. Through these appointments I have begun to regain my confidence and now feel much better equipped to get stronger and return to work. I honestly dread to think we're I would have been without the help of my GP Dr Bell and Shirley.

I will be forever grateful to them.

Dear irregularitytn78,

Thank you for sharing your experience of University Hospital Monklands, Emergency Department.

I am sorry to hear that you were taken to Monklands twice last year. I am glad that on both occasions the staff listened and fully investigated your symptoms. I am glad that your GP was able to narrow this down and provide you with a diagnosis.

I would be more than happy to pass on your kind words to the ED team who I am sure will get a real boost in hearing your feedback. Unfortunately GPs are independent contractors and as such are not set up to respond to feedback on Care Opinion. Please could I ask that you contact the practice manager to pass on your comments to the GP concerned?

I hope you are feeling better now.

Best Wishes,

Jenni
