"Support for my son with ADHD and autism"

About: Neurodiversity Services / Rotherham ADHD team

(as a parent/guardian),

My son has been on a long and difficult journey with his mental health which has included episodes of severe anger , despair and depression at times. He is starting to learn coping strategies mainly thanks to Debbie’s continual support and understanding but still needs the comfort of knowing someone who absolutely gets him is there for advice and support.

She has also supported me over the years and recognises that having a child who struggles and suffers as he does is a continual worry .

Hi I am Jo the Manager for the Team. Firstly thank you for taking the time to complete the care opinion form. Your feedback is very important to us as a service. This enables us to reflect upon our practices, interactions with patients and family members and how we interact with each other. It was a pleasure to read that both you and your son felt supported, heard and listened to by Debbie. I will be sure to pass your lovely comments on to her. As a service we recognise that the patient journey can at times be fraught and very emotional due to the symptoms that your son has had to try to make sense of for a long time. Hence why we adopt an empathic supportive, calm caring support as this enables patients, yourself and your son to feel at ease. Encouraging him to be open and honest in regard to his ongoing struggles when he attends his appointments. Therefore, I would like to wish him good luck with the rest of his journey through the service.
