Main carer for my father who lives with myself and young family. Late stage Alzheimer’s. For close to a year I have been seeking a care package but to no avail despite phone calls and pleading for help, I never received the help my father so desperately needed. I also requested respite but never received this and I then pleaded for emergency respite bed but never received this either. I genuinely feel sorry for those carers that have taken on a loved one trying to keep them out of hospital and care for them in their own home in the community as I feel their needs will never be prioritised simply because hospital discharges will always be prioritised to keep the flow of beds going within acute hospitals, however by doing this I feel we are leaving our vulnerable older persons at a high risk of neglect and suffering due to the lack of community support services.
