"Felt not listened or cared for"

About: Northampton General Hospital (Acute) / Accident and emergency Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust / Musculoskeletal physiotherapy

(as the patient),

When for back pain to A&E 3 times. First time in April had a back pain that lead to leg pain. In that occation I felt heard and cared for. And I was told if I feel any numbness to visit the A&E again, even if i was at 2am. With the medication given and my visits to phisio my back pain got better. Till last week that came back, my back pain again afecting my leg.

I came back to A&E to have a look at it just to be told to keep doing visits to my GP till the point they will book and MRI to see what's happening on my back, because on the UTC cannot refer me to it, just repeatlast time prescription and sent me home.

And today when I felt numbness on my leg, I get back to A&E just to listen again why I didn't go to the GP by the A&E reception staff and doctor told me that it's normal a bit of numbness with the back pain and why I was there again. Just to be worried if I cannot feel my private parts.

A&E it should be helping us not sending us to contact GP.

I was in pain, worried for my numbness and doctor just sent me back to finish my prescription and call GP .

I was never treated like this in the Northampton general hospital. I was always happy how they treat me in the past. But I cannot say the same for the last couple of visits.

We are so sorry to read about the experience you have had whilst in pain and experiencing numbness, and were sent away to contact your GP on more than one occasion.

If you would like to speak to someone about this, please contact the Patient Experience Department at ngh-tr.PatientExperience@nhs.net and we will do our best to help.

Your feedback will be shared with our Emergency Department.

Kind regards
