On behalf of our entire family, we would like to extend our deepest and most sincere gratitude for the exceptional care the team in Crosshouse ICU provided to our Mum during her final days.
In particular, Consultants Callum and Tom, Nurses Sophie, Lucy, Kayleigh and Maddie who all went above and beyond and we will never forget you all.
At an incredibly difficult time for us, your compassion, professionalism, and dedication brought us comfort and reassurance. We witnessed, firsthand, the extraordinary work you do every day — not only in attending to the complex medical needs of your patients but in offering dignity, empathy, and human kindness when it is needed most.
You treated our Mum not just as a patient, but as a person — with gentleness, respect, and understanding. The attention you gave her, and the support you offered us, will never be forgotten. In those last moments, you made sure she was not alone, and that means more to us than words can fully express.
The little touches that nobody sees have left a lasting impression on us and these were what meant so much to us. The IPad playing Mums favourite songs, the family pictures around her bed, setting up a bed next to Mum for our Dad and setting up a bed in the family room for us.
You gave Mum a little teddy and 2 knitted hearts to have with her during her final hours, the teddy is now with her 3-year-old grandson, who hasn’t put it down since and my Dad has one of the hearts, her granddaughter has the other and the little angel has been given to her other grandson. You also took Mum's handprints for us and this meant so much, as we all now have one each.
We as a family want to give something back and know this is exactly what our wonderful Mum would have wanted so the collection at Mum's funeral will be for you amazing human beings to help you continue giving the exceptional care to other patients that you gave to Mum.
We are incredibly grateful for the tireless work you do, often under intense pressure, and for the way you looked after Mum — and us — with such grace and compassion. Thank you, from the very bottom of our hearts.
