"Reassurance around my sons autism"

About: NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde / Specialist Children Services

(as a parent/guardian),

We worked with Ciara @ north west SLT

My son was referred for delayed speech , after speaking to Ciara she put my mind at ease and really helped me understand that what we where doing was perfect my son doesn’t have a speed delay he does infact choose not to communicate with words as he does have autism and hearing this really helped myself become more relaxed as this was something I have thought he may have since he was a really young age

Ciara is lovely very welcoming and helps you understand more around autism , speech delays and the way children’s brains work and that not every child’s thinking is the same way

I cannot express or explain how much Ciara has helped myself and our family feel more relaxed knowing we weren’t crazy by thinking our son has autism

Ciara helped us in meetings with Childs nursery explaining how he doesn’t feel a need to communicate as the outcome won’t be the same , she discussed how we can try and help him when he’s looking but doesn’t know how to ask for help

Dear RD,OK 2025

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience working with Ciara from our North West Speech and Language Therapy team.

We’re truly heartened to hear how much of a difference Ciara has made to you and your family. Supporting families to better understand their child’s communication needs is a core part of what we do, and your words highlight just how impactful that support can be when done with care and compassion.

Ciara will be so pleased to know her reassurance, knowledge, and guidance helped you feel seen, heard, and more confident in your understanding of your son’s needs. Her ability to explain the complexities of autism and communication in a way that brings clarity and comfort is a quality we value greatly.

Thank you again for your kind message — we wish you and your family all the very best on your journey ahead.

Kind regards

Kevin

Dear RD, OK 2025

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch to share how much our support meant to you and your family.

We believe it is so important for families to be able to share what they are thinking and worried about in relation to their children and that they have the space and time to feel heard.

It was a privilege to be able give you the reassurance you needed that you are doing an incredible job in supporting your child.

You are the expert in knowing your child and working together allowed us to add the knowledge about communication differences in autism to help you understand why the world can be a challenging place for him and what can help reduce some of the struggle.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to empower you to advocate so well for your child - it was a pleasure to work with you.

Best wishes

Liz
