"Poor communication"

About: Braintree Community Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently had a gastroscopy where a stomach ulcer was found. The endoscopist told me I needed to have another gastroscopy in 6 weeks' time and that an appointment would be made automatically and be sent to through to me within this time. Over 4 weeks later, I'd heard nothing so I called unit and was reassured I would get appt shortly.

Some days later, instead of receiving appt as I'd been told I would, I received email asking me to call to make an appointment.

I did so and after waiting to be put through for 15 mins without any indication of where I was in queue, and another 15 mins checking available appointments, I was then told that earliest appt was in June, which I had no choice to accept.

Straight after my gastroscopy, the endoscopist told me that they had taken samples for biopsy and that I should receive results in next two weeks.

Once again, this didn't happen.

Having checked with my GP for biopsy results on multiple occasions and them telling me they'd had nothing through, I called Braintree endoscopy unit.

I was then told that no biopsies had been taken or sent.

This was very disappointing and stressful for me, knowing that I had to wait till I had second gastroscopy to have samples taken again and yet another delay before getting biopsy results.

The staff I encountered were all very pleasant but clearly the poor communication is totally unacceptable.

Surely it's not that difficult for staff to book an appt soon after receiving  referral?

This is not an appt for the hairdressers after all and unnecessary delays  with medical procedures /tests can potentially prove very harmful.

Inhealth, please get your act together! We deserve better.
