"The staff really are special"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiac Catherterisation University Hospital Hairmyres / Coronary Care Unit

(as the patient),

I have suffered heart issues stemming back to 2016 when I had a CABG x2 at Golden Jubilee Hospital, unfortunately following this procedure I did not gain the feeling of much if any improvement. Had various further procedures including stents.

Arrived at the Cath Lab in Hairmyres to see Dr Carrick my newest cardiologist regarding my ongoing symptoms of chest pains and shortness of breath. Staff were amazing the 4 patients for this mornings rounds were all ready and sat awaiting the consultants to do their part before 8am.

The staff really are special and difficult to single out any of them because collectively they make a world class team. Although I had been through this procedure makes it no less nerve racking but nurses on hand to explain and calm patients at every juncture.

I was first up so in I go to Lab 2, back out within about an hour with x2 stents freshly fitted. Unfortunately this is where I experienced chest pains, which were very quickly picked up on by the very alert nursing staff, few painkillers but no let up of the pain. I was taken straight back in where the problem was very quickly identified by Dr Carrick and all his supporting staff.

I spent the night in CCU and was discharged in the morning. Now here comes the special bit, I woke up on Saturday morning with zero chest pain, I remain able to say I still at time or writing have no chest pains, now this might not seem such a huge achievement to some but for me this is the first time since February 2016 where I am free from chest pain.

The whole experience in the Cath Lab and CCU was simply first class and I cannot thank all staff involved enough, wee special shout out to Megan who was newly qualified but provided me with care I would have expected from a far more experienced nurse. But thank you to all involved and as I’ve said combined you make the best team in the world!

Dear Serpico

Thank you for your lovely comments. It sounds like you have had a difficult time over the years with your heart condition. I am pleased that you are now finding some relief from your symptoms. It was great to hear that the whole team looked after you well. CCU and the Cath lab strive to work as a team together for our patients so I am delighted that this came accross in your care. I will pass your very positive feedback to the team and especially to Megan.

Thank you and best wishes

Anne Marie
