"A comprehensive and effective service"

About: Older People’s Services / Hospital at Home Northern Sector

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Hospital at home is an amazing, comprehensive and effective service with a fantastic and dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced professionals. Each staff member working with my father was courteous and respectful. He was unwell for 1 week but I believe he would have been sick for longer with a traditional hospital stay. Being treated at home made the biggest difference to his recovery. Hospital services are a difficult, challenging and often a traumatic experience for older people with complex medical needs. HAH is a lifeline for older people who become ill and unwell.

I would highly recommend this service and strongly advocate for its expansion so more older people receive medical treatment at home, reducing infection, corridor care and less falls and adverse incidents.

We would like to say a special thank you to all the HAH team. The nurses, doctors, and Carla the pharmacist, whose medication review reduced medication and awful side effects of diarrhoea, enhancing quality of life. Also to Beatriz the OT- she has amazing bedside manner and very patient centred. Her input has helped dad stay at home and feel safer by reducing his risk of falls.

Thanks again to all the team.

Thanks for your positive and kind feedback.

I agree that a hospital admission can be traumatic for anyone but in particular the older person. Hospital staff work very hard to treat patients under very stressful circumstance and they often have numerous patients to treat at any given time. Hospital at home patients are very fortunate that they receive one to one care during their treatment.

Receiving care at home gives the patient and their family the time to spend together without the restrictions of visiting hours. Having family around you when you are ill is very important.

The MDT work very well together and Carla is an outstanding pharmacist with a wealth of knowledge and will fully review all medications. To hear that your dad has had a full review and no longer has to take mediations that make him feel unwell is amazing.

The team OT Beatriz also is a vital member of the team and will aid towards supplying equipment to help patients mange at home and prevent a social admission to hospital.

I will pass on you complements to all the staff in particular Carla and Beatriz.

Thanks
