"More convenient for family"

About: Older People’s Services / Hospital at Home Northern Sector Waterside Hospital

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

My husband's experience of the Hospital at Home service was very positive. Being at home in his own surroundings meant he was less anxious and more relaxed. I feel this helped greatly towards a quick recovery from sepsis. Having availed of this service twice, I think it is certainly the best for more elderly persons- lowers the risk of hospital infections and is more convenient for family who are involved in caring for the person at home.

The nursing staff who came to administer IV medicine were very professional and, at the same time, friendly and approachable, able to answer any questions I had.

Thanks for your positive feedback.

I agree that patients improve quicker at home and have less risk of picking up a hospital acquired infection. They also have more support from family due to no restriction of visiting.

The team would aim to call 3 times daily depending on treatment required. The staff will always involve family in treatment plans and review with bloods to identify if current treatment is working.

I will pass on your feedback to the staff and I hope your husband remains well.

Kind regards
