"A shining star in a very dark tunnel"

About: The Princess Royal Maternity Unit / Special Needs in Pregnancy Team (SNIPS)

(as a service user),

I was referred to psychologist Kirsten during my pregnancy for my fear of needles and white coat syndrome.

The pregnancy was causing me to be very anxious due to all my worries of things that could go wrong and the needles and wires I may then have to face.

Unfortunately, there were changes in my home life and I struggled to cope with this. This was right before my first appointment with Kirsten and so instead of spending our time discussing my fears of needles - Kirsten listened to me and helped me through the most difficult time in my life.

Not only was I extremely unwell throughout my full pregnancy, my situation at home was so difficult. And Kirsten was my rock and mentor throughout. I truly found so much comfort and help in her guidance and words.

Kirsten taught me coping mechanisms for many things (including my fear of needles). She took me for a tour around the hospital before I was due to give birth so that my fear would be manageable.

I honestly don’t have enough words to thank Kirsten for her kind ways and patience with me. She was a shining star in a very dark tunnel and I’ll savour her words for years to come.

She told me I am about to embark on the greatest love story of my life. And she was right.

I’m still receiving help from Kirsten and I’m so blessed to be lucky enough to have her guidance through the next chapter with some of the difficulties I’m facing. Thank you Kirsten, you are one of life’s most wonderful people. Anyone under your care is extremely lucky.

I'm extremely lucky to be receiving Kirsten’s support and she continues to be an incredible help to me.

Dear Lisa12344

Thank you for taking the time to tell about your experience of care from Kirsten during what sounds to have been a difficult time for you. Pregnancy can be a time of change and it was lovely to read how you have received the support from Kirsten with your needle phobia and with the situations you have worked through together.

I will share your kind feedback with Kirsten, who will be delighted to hear that she has made a difference in the support and help she has provided this far.

I will take this opportunity to wish you well for the future.

Best Wishes

Elaine Drennan
