"Friends using 999"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 1 (Emergency Medical)

(as a friend),

My friend recently had to make a 999 call for her husband. The ambulance arrived very quickly, two young medics, Robin and Clair, were outstanding.  They very quickly had the situation under control, took time to be reassuring, contacted the GP followed by Admissions 1 at the Victoria Hospital. At Victoria Hospital again Robin and Clair remained kind, helpful and reassuring until the hospital staff took over.

Again all the staff in Admissions 1 were amazing.  So professional but kind, friendly and very efficient. Alison was so lovely and soon had the patient comfortable, which was reassuring for my friend.

Various other staff including the ladies who served lunch were wonderful.  A couple of doctors did assessments and after a thorough examination agreed that he would be allowed to return home.

Before this happened Alison, a physiotherapist, calmly advised of various exercises he can do and how to handle his ongoing illness. She too was outstanding.

Amazingly Robin, the medic from the Ambulance, returned just before the end of his shift to find out how he was.  My friends were overwhelmed by his thoughtfulness and care.

Dr Pollock spent some time going over everything again before signing the discharge papers.

It was a very worrying and traumatic time, but throughout the whole experience all medical staff were outstanding.

A huge thank you to everyone involved, you're worth your weight in gold.

Hi McLaren,

I see my colleagues from NHS Fife have already responded to your wider comments but I just wanted to thank you in particular for your kind feedback about our staff at the Scottish Ambulance Service. This is great to hear.

Our staff always really appreciate when patients, family members or friends write in to say thank you. It means a lot. It is brilliant to read that your friend was so well cared for and that Robin even came back in to check in at the end of the shift.

Thanks again for taking the time to write in.

All the best,

Mark
