I first approached the ward with fear, anxiety and trepidation. I never had those feelings again going to the ward, because I quickly learned that it's a safe, welcoming, therapeutic place where I am treated with great care and professionalism, and where I know that all my concerns will be addressed. The ward is cheerful, organised, and works efficiently, and I feel privileged to be treated by such wonderful staff.
Ward B1 has been the anchor in my cancer treatment which has involved several stays, some overnight, some for longer when necessary. The staff, without exception are fantastic and function as a highly efficient, co-ordinated team who clearly communicate well with each other. I have benefited from the care and attention from housekeeping staff, kitchen staff, admin staff, health care assistants, nurses, doctors, a dietician, pharmacists, porters, and volunteers, all of whom have been excellent. Nothing is ever too much trouble, even in the middle of the night. I am always confident that any issues I have will be dealt with swiftly, professionally and appropriately.
After I was first suspected of having cancer, I waited an agonising 13 weeks to see a specialist, which made me feel worthless and despairing. Fortunately, the excellent care shown by staff on B1 has made me feel far more positive, and optimistic. I am always listened to, taken seriously, and every concern is addressed. I feel that I am regarded as a whole person, not just a patient, and my husband is included when appropriate.
