"Extremely poor care and compassion"

About: Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Accident & Emergency

(as the patient),

Shocking treatment from start to finish. I was referred to the initial assessment by an out of hours doctors for further tests with a tight chest following an asthma attack and infection and from the moment I arrived they questioned why I had even been sent there, were rude and dismissive of my symptoms and made me feel extremely uncomfortable. The nurse who first seen me had to take my blood twice as they weren't paying attention when taking the vials and said they had forgot some, they then came back not to ask how I was but to see if they had left their mobile phone in the room!

The doctor who seen me was rude and dismissive and didn’t understand why I was there, they questioned all my symptoms, insinuating that it didn’t make sense, despite noting my breathlessness and hoarse voice and I had to explain the out of hours doctors had sent me for further investigation just in case, also explaining I didn’t want to be there but they made me feel so silly for explaining my concerns and that I wasn’t feeling right. I was in the bay across from the doctor’s room and I could hear the doctors discussing and questioning why I had even been sent, which made me really uncomfortable.

After my blood and X-ray results came back clear, I was told I could go home once my Covid results were back, but they couldn’t find them, turned out the nurse had left them behind me in the room and never processed them so I had to wait even longer. The doctor said to carry on with the initial medication I had been given and to come back if it got any worse, they explained they had ruled out any major concerns and it must just be an infection that’s making me feel this as there’s nothing else and then went over how I should use my inhalers, in what I feel was a very condescending manner.

I waited another 40 mins with no update and had to go find the same nurse who took my bloods, they were  sitting in an empty patient bay on their phone and I asked if my Covid results were back, they checked and said they were clear and I could leave. 10 mins later while on my way home another doctor phoned me to ask if I had left and I had to explain that I spoke to the nurse and that they told me I could go, which the doctor had no idea about! This doctor then went over my results and repeated what I had already been told.

I felt my concerns were totally dismissed, I was told to get checked if I didn’t feel right but I was made to feel like an idiot and my care and patient manner was extremely poor
