"Blood test"

About: Bellshill Locality Support Service / Treatment Room

(as the patient),

I attended recently for my blood test as requested by my GP.

The HCSW was very pleasant, however they went for a superficial vein without palpating other veins. This subsequently led to them having difficulty getting enough and me having blood running down my arm and on to the pillow.

My partner was in a few weeks before me and also had an unfortunate experience. 2 attempts to get blood despite having good veins and he was heavily bruised. I know bruising happens but not exactly the best experiences.

The treatment rooms should offer a walk in service for bloods also until 5.30 for those who work. It's done in other health boards with ease.

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience. I’m sorry to hear that both you and your partner encountered difficulties during your blood tests.

We always aim to provide a high standard of care, so it’s concerning to hear that the procedures were uncomfortable and that the vein selection process may not have been as thorough as expected. Your feedback will be shared with the team to help ensure best practices are consistently followed.

Regarding your suggestion about extending walk-in services for blood tests until 5:30 p.m., I appreciate you highlighting this. I understand how important flexibility is, especially for those who work during the day. I will pass this on to the relevant team for consideration as we continue to review and improve our services.

Thank you again for your valuable feedback, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any further concerns
