In short, my daughter's practice has been appalling in their treatment of her. Unable to get an appointment through persistent phoning, but signed her off work until June even although she was receiving no treatment and the reason being post viral fatigue, I visited the practice and more or less blew a fuse. However, she did get an appointment the next day after the GP phoned her. She was sent for scans and again had to try to get an appointment to discuss the results. At the hospital she was told she didn't have kidney stones (first mention she'd heard of this or it could be her gall bladder. That was removed a few years ago).
Constantly phoning and failing again to get an appointment and being told only emergency patients were being taken (at 8am) I visited again and blew a fuse again at how disgraceful a practice it is. I got into my car and phoned requesting an emergency appointment. They asked for the symptoms and didn't think it was an emergency. I repeated what I'd been told by the receptionist that it wasn't what they considered urgent, but the patient. Lo and behold she got an appointment. Once again she has been referred for scans and is no further forward as to what is wrong with her.
In my opinion there are serious failings in this practice. Patients receive texts advising the practice will be closed either because there aren't enough doctors or a recent one was due to staff illness and it is virtually impossible to get through any morning to get an appointment and if you do it's to say it's only for emergencies.
Apparently they are trialling a book in advance appointment system, but again, when and if, you can get through the appointments are gone.
My own practice is brilliant. You can visit at 8am, give your symptoms and a GP calls back to discuss whether an appointment is necessary and you actually feel they are complying with a duty of care. Sadly that doesn't apply to my daughter's practice.
Meantime that's 2 weeks since my daughter's last appointment and to date no hospital appointment but we'll wait and see how this whole sorry saga continues. All she wants is to know what is wrong with her and to be able to let her work know when she hopes to return.
