"Being cared for by Paramedic Crews"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a service user),

I was walking our 2 dogs, early evening with my partner. We drove to a field near us to let the dogs have a good run. Our 18 month pup was doing the zoomies, living her best life. She then decided to run to me……full pace, leg between her legs…..

My next memory is lying on the ground. I felt sick and I thought initially she had just winded me. She picked up a branch and was jumping about waving it over my face. Very excited that mum had got on the floor with her!

So…….to cut a very long story short.

2 Paramedic crews later and then the crew who can travel into fields came to my rescue.

Now, I’ve been told, that my language was somewhat spicy! I swore and cussed.

Refusing at one point to let them examine my knee.

It was clear I had a fractured left arm and an injury to my left leg.

2 cylinders of Entonox , IV morphine and then a cheeky wee canister of magic fairy dust- (can’t remember name)

I was putty in their hands.

I became compliant and allowed the professionals to do their job.

All crews were kind, professional, had a sense of humour and answered all our questions.

They then safely transported me to St John’s in West Lothian at around 23:00. They cared for me in the ambulance as A&E was busy and only took me in when there was a space.

I felt safe, cared for, listened to and was treated with respect. My partner and friends that had attended all felt the same.

The service was incredible.

I did not get a proper chance to thank them all.

2 of the crews had travelled from Fife or apologise for my language.

Hi Reflective,

I'm sorry to hear about your accident recently, that sounds like quite the ordeal!

I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to write in and share your experience and for your very kind words about our staff at the Scottish Ambulance Service who looked after you. It's brilliant to hear that the service you received was incredible.

Our staff are well used to patients using some choice language sometimes, especially when the patient is in extreme pain so don't worry about it... as you say, that magic fairy dust normally does the trick very quickly!

I hope you're doing ok now. Thanks again for writing in.

Mark
