My aunt is in her 80s and has been diagnosed Bipolar for nealy 30 years. She has had absolutely no follow ups from her psychiatrist in over 5 years or any sort of follow up at all on her mental health or medication, there used to be someone who visited her once a week, but they retired and there was no replacement offered.
My aunt is suffering greatly with anxiety, panic attacks and her mood is fluctuating daily on highs and lows and she finds it very difficult to manage. When she mentioned this to her GP, she was told - it's a nice day, why don't you get outside? I find this a deplorable response from a GP, and not acceptable.
I am well aware that mental health services are extremely lacking for everyone that requires them, but this situation is deplorable and disgusting, she feels like she isn't worthy of help and that she has just been forgotten about.
