"Such a positive experience"

About: Maternity care / Community Midwives Maternity care / Maternity Ward Maternity care / Midwife Led Unit

(as the patient),

I gave birth to my first child just over a week ago and the care from NHS Fife has been exceptional.

From being in triage to the labour ward to surgery to recovery to maternity ward, every single person we encountered were fantastic.

I wish I could remember everyone's names but standout are consultant Michael on labour ward and his entire team for keeping me calm and focused during labour and some scary moments, midwife Beth on the maternity ward who was kind, compassionate and so friendly and maternity care assistant, Adele, who was so lovely and helped me so much with learning to feed my baby. The midwife who took care of me during the night and in to the morning was also fantastic. We cannot remember her name but she took great care of me during the peak of my contractions and sat with us all night monitoring both me and my baby. There are so many others that I didn't catch the names of like the woman in recovery who took great care of me, all the surgeons and anethetists who kept me and my husband calm during my c section, the midwives who sat monitoring me and my baby all night during labor to so many others. So many kind people who even took the time to find us after birth and congratulate us.

Also a mention to the domestic staff (cleaning, catering, etc) who were also so friendly and kind to us during our stay.

Pre birth and post birth - the care from community midwife, Kate, who I saw at Hospital Hill Surgery has also been brilliant. Every appointment, she took the time to listen to any big/small/silly questions I had and answered in such a friendly manner and made it all seem much less scary. Post birth, the appointments with her have been great too and she has passed on some great advice. She attended my post birth home visits with a student midwife, Tara, from Napier University who was also brilliant and will make an excellent qualified midwife.

I don't know how to thank all at Victoria Hospital enough for such a positive experience. A thank you card and chocolates doesn't seem enough!

Good afternoon Rachmay,

Congratulations on your new arrival.

We appreciate you taking time, especially only a week postnatal (you must be exhausted) to send your thanks and appreciation to the staff who cared for you throughout your journey.

Thanks you especially for acknowledging our domestic colleagues who are first line of defense in ensuring a clean safe environment, they are some times our unsung heroes.

I will share youre amazing gratitude with the teams involved.

All the very best wishes to your family from ours.

Pamela Higgins
