"I couldn’t fault anything from my visit"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine

(as the patient),

Having been unwell with high blood sugars for over a week and unable to correct myself, I contacted the Diabetic specialist nurse, we had a plan and I was to contact NHS 24 if required. That evening, I had to contact NHS 24 and was advised to head into A&E.

When I arrived in I was told around an hour and a half wait, I must only have been waiting 10 minutes when my name was called, I was taken through and assessed, bloods & obs taken and awaited a Dr. After a few hours i was moved from Initial assessment to the main (ward?) part of A&E, again observed, CTG. once seen my the Dr, I was to be monitored for a few hours, attempt something to eat to see if I would then spike again or what would happen. After a good few hours things improved and I was moved to the Overspill area awaiting going home.

I couldn’t be more grateful for the staff I came into contact with, the lovely receptionist who booked me in, Sarah the A&E nurse who was so friendly and calming ( I was so anxious as this had been on going for a week and worried what was to come) Isabella the HCA, who made a scary time a little less so by reassuring me and being generally lovely and bright, Dr Harvey who managed to get under control control, nurse Peter and the other lovely nurse I saw whilst in the main part of A&E.

From a service that gets a lot of negativity and bad press, I couldn’t fault anything from my visit, incredibly grateful that we have such a service that really is there in a time of need.
