Dementia sufferer in their 90s, 31 hrs in A&E, Altnagelvin - care in resus excellent, care in A&E despicable and inadequate.
Senior staff and mds were arrogant and lacked any effort of understanding and empathy. When presented with a safety situation of patient requiring toilet assistance, no assistance, even after 30 mins, even when patient tried to climb over safety rails on bed.
Nurse approached and told me they would get someone, no one came. When a doctor was asked if they could direct me to someone to ask for help, reply was they were busy doing a handover and I'll have to wait.
Is this all according to patients charter?
I observed a lot of people in all different colours of scrubs etc. even different colours for same professions, it used to be that you could tell the differences in staff - ie nurses, doctors etc. In my view, all these colours may as well be called camouflage to hide behind.
I observed a lot of different workers all working independent with no sense of common aim, no collective responsibility, it felt like if it's not their job they have no responsibility for the situation.
