"Care and dedication to achieve the best for their patients"

About: Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Housing, Adaptations and Specialist Equipment Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Integrated Neurology Service

(as a relative),

My dad was diagnosed with MND in February this year. This was and is devastating news. He was quickly referred to the Integrated Neurology Service, first meeting Kim a few weeks after his diagnosis.

Kim's empathy, understanding and guidance was a shining light. She visited my parents' home and patiently explained what she could about the diagnosis. She listened to the concerns and worries of our family, offering her support and assurance that we were not on our own.

Following our first interaction, Kim has been true to her word in every sense; ensuring all interactions are documented thoroughly, following up on our questions promptly and always responding to emails with patience and care. She did, and continues to do, everything she says she will to support my dad and the rest of us at this traumatic time.

Dad was visited by a member of the HASE team in March, and the visit was not successful. Following this, after informing Kim, she was able to offer assistance with this, involving her colleague, Jo (Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist). Jo quickly visited my parents; this was unscheduled, Jo was working from home and quickly hopped in her car to meet with them. This unprecedented level of care meant so much to my dad and the rest of the family after a breakdown in trust with the HASE team.

Jo has now been heavily involved in devising a housing needs and adaptation plan for my dad as the MND progresses. Jo is warm, empathetic and caring, another shining light in the Integrated Neurology Service.

Without the guidance and of both Kim and Jo, I think my family would feel very lost at this time. Their obvious care and dedication to achieve the best for their patients is very apparent. It is clear that both ladies have lots of experience but beyond that, it is the empathy that they have both shown to us, that I am extremely grateful for.

Thank you Gemma for such a lovely post. I know how dedicated the neurology team are in providing support for all our patients and when you have taken the time to write something like this it means a lot. I will make sure Kim and Jo have seen and the wider team.

Take care
