My mother has recently been discharged from ward 6 BGH
Over the last two weeks I’ve called out 3 999 ambulances, she was taken in with what was like a collapse and unresponsive for a few minutes, they took bloods etc and she was found to have low sodium which was left, she continued to go down hill - ie confusion, nausea, fatigued,
Her friend called to visit, to find my mum slumped over the chair and slurring her speech, she was again taken back in and discharged as they thought she had a TIA and it had resolved so she was discharged.
My brother called to visit, to find she had lost her eyesight and couldn’t string a sentence together. Again she was taken back in, this time they kept her as her sodium was low, her bloods were off, and she was confused. She was admitted to ward 6 and had a drip up all night and was still up the day before she was discharged.
I phoned the ward to see what kind of night she had to be told she had had the drip up all night and would find out more when I visited that afternoon.
My brother phoned me to say that my mum was in the discharge lounge, I phoned ward 6 to speak to the Dr who told me she was still in her bed and hadn’t been discharged, they also asked about her confusion and I said I thought this was due to her sodium levels, they also asked what walking aids does she use and I said none. The conversation continued then the Dr asked what my mother was called, when I told them they replied oh sorry, they were talking about a different patient.
We headed up to the BGH to find our mum in the discharge lounge not looking well and still slightly confused. I had stated to the Dr that I understand they free the beds up at weekend, but what I can’t understand is they discharge before medical fit.
May I add all the staff in ward 6 were lovely.
