"Amazing mental health inpatient ward"

About: Rotherham Swallownest Court Inpatient Unit / Sandpiper ward

(as a relative),

My brother spent 5 months on Sandpiper Ward due to a schizophrenia crisis episode. The staff there were exceptional.

I have nothing but praise for the whole team from the Psychiatrists to the housekeeping staff.

In over 30 years of interacting with numerous Mental Health teams, both community and inpatient services, we have never met a more caring, dedicated, professional, helpful and supportive team and RDaSH should be extremely proud.

All the staff appear to enjoy their highly challenging jobs, they have time for and interact with patients and visitors alike with genuine interest, compassion and understanding, with a smile and friendly manner at all times, even while running when an alarm is raised.

They keep their eye on the patients at all times and respond to the individual needs and safety of every inpatient, quick to react and manage any challenge.

The care on this ward was exemplary and I think that other wards/departments/hospitals could learn a lot from you.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart

You made a world of difference to my brother, mother and myself and restored our faith in Mental Health services. You believed my brother was worth the effort and that has left him feeling respected, seen and heard, something he hasn't felt before.

My mother and I were sad that we didn't get the chance to say goodbye to you all and say a massive heartfelt thank you.
