"Care after a major operation and life saving surgery"

About: Community Nursing Services / Nottingham West Community Nursing Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Colorectal surgery Specialist Therapy Services / Nottingham West Heart Failure Team Tissue Viability Services / South Notts Tissue Viability Service

(as a service user),

I suffered a perforated bowel March 24 that needed life saving surgery,  this surgery resulted in a colostomy, a huge operation for an 87 year old. The aftercare has been fantastic thanks to the brilliant nurses at QMC and City Hospital, the stoma nurses and the district nurses who treated me at home and the District Matron, Karen.

Karen deserves a particular mention because she has gone above and beyond to get me back on my feet and where I am now, I started with lots of water retention due to heart failure and treatment became quite problematic at times but, I am so much better than I was before Karen started visiting me back in August 24, the water retention has all but gone now, without Karens help over the past months I dread to think where I would be now.

I'd also like to thank the surgeon and his team for performing this life saving surgery.

Dear Patient,

Thank you for leaving this feedback about our hospitals following your emergency surgery.

We are pleased to hear that after what must have been a troubling time, you were able to get back on your feet with the help of the teams mentioned in your review. We will of course make sure that the colorectal surgery team see this feedback.

Kind regards,

Kelly – Patient Experience and Engagement Officer
