"It has been a game changer"

About: West Cornwall Hospital (Penzance)

(as the patient),

I wish to wish my thanks to Lucinda from the Occupational Health Dept, West Cornwall Hospital, Penzance.

Over five years ago I suffered from mis/undiagnosed Cauda Equina Syndrome. My GP was not willing to listen and it took 10 to 12 weeks before I had treatment, after I paid for an MRI. This left me with an on-going disability. I have felt I have had to self support for most of the last 5 years.

I have been paying for 'foot up' devices during that time, because my GP has not made me aware I could get support from the NHS. I suffer from chronic pain, partly owing to my bad gait.

I was eventually referred to Lucinda at West Cornwall Hospital. She recommended a Step-On AFO brace device. After a short wait for the correct size to come into stock, she fitted this for me.

It has been a game changer. My walking gait has been almost immediately improved, and the secondary pain I suffer from has reduced significantly. I will be left with the neuropathic pain, however the reduction of other pain has made my life better.

Dear Keith1910

Thank you so much for taking the time to tell us about your experience of seeing Lucinda, the Splinting and Bracing Occupational Therapist, at West Cornwall Hospital.

I am so glad to hear that the brace she fitted for you has made such a difference to your gait and had a positive impact on your pain levels.

I am the Governance Lead for Therapies and I have shared your feedback with Lucinda, and I know she will be very pleased to read it. It's always so encouraging for staff when they receive positive feedback from patients.

Thank you again for taking the time to tell us about this and I trust you will continue to find the brace of benefit going forward.

Best wishes

Becky Osborne
