"My son's injured big toe"

About: Arbroath Infirmary / Minor Injuries

(as a parent/guardian),

My son badly hurt his big toe at school.  Our local GP Nurse would not look at it and just put a plaster on it and left him and told us to fill in a form for podiatry.  It was bleeding and was badly bruised and his nail was also hanging off.

We gave him pain killers and tried to clean it up at home but it got very sore during the night therefore we called NHS24 for advice.

Arbroath Hospital kindly brought us in the next morning and a wonderful Nurse called Ann put my son at ease and cleaned up his toe and checked there was no broken bones.  She was absolutely fantastic, caring, fun and just a great comfort.  Thank you Ann! :)

Dear marion673

Thank you for taking the time to complete a Care Opinion about your recent visit to the Minor Injuries Unit at Arbroath Infirmary.

I am sorry to hear your son injured his big toe at school and that it became more painful during the night and you had to contact NHS 24.

I am delighted you were seen by Anne in the Minor Injuries Unit and she put your son at ease while checking for a bony injury.

Anne is one of our most experienced nurses and has worked in the Minor Injuries service for over 20 years. I am thrilled you found her fantastic, caring, fun and a great comfort during your visit.

I will ensure your kind comments are passed onto Anne and the rest of the team in Minor Injuries and wish your son a speedy recovery.

Take care

Rhianne Roberts
