I am writing on behalf of my mother who is currently under the care of the oncology team in the ulster hospital. Mum had a busy week with appointments . Unfortunately mum's samples were initially rejected from labs which meant these needed to be repeated. Mum expresses fear around needles and Venus access is poor and further restricted due to lymphodeama which adds to mums anxiety.
Mum has faced a lot of needles in the past days and having to attend the Macmillen unit increased her anxiety levels. When mum got to the Macmillen unit she was met with a friendly familiar face, Nurse Jodie, Jodie done mum's admission back in February to the unit so this put mum at ease.
Mum expressed anxiety and Jodie was very quick to reassure mum and was able to get one of her colleagues (nurse Carol) to distract mum in order to obtain her bloods. Mum spoke so highly of Jodie and Carol, saying how caring, kind and compassionate, they were and a real example of their profession.
Mum and I thank the team in the macmillen/mcdermott unit for their hard work and compassion for the patients in their care.
"Wonderful care and compassion"
