My daughter suffers with Rheumatoid Arthritis and has been under the care of Glasgow Children's Hospital since she was 14. Once she turned 18 she was transferred to Wishaw.
No notes were sent to the nurse, so they asked my daughter to talk them through her history. She was asked when she had last had a blood test (she's on methotrexate). When she said a couple of months ago, the nurse told me daughter she'd better hope her liver is ok. We were given a 3-month supply of methotrexate but the Children's Hospital and never invited for a blood test.
The nurse continued to be extremely rude and dismissive of my daughter, telling her she's used to being cared for at the Children's Hospital, and she won't get that here. They continued by saying that if she needs any more steroid injections, she won't get gas and air here, she'll just need to get on with it.
At this point my daughter started to cry and I stepped in. Whilst I appreciate my daughter is now technically an adult, this was her first appointment at an adult hospital and in my view she was being spoken to like dirt.
The nurse didn't apologise but quickly turned very complimentary and friendly. They then took blood (something my daughter is very used to and never bothered by) where they caused a split vein which remained badly bruised for over two weeks.
As a result of this appointment my daughter has now become incredibly nervous around medical staff (something she never was before). I'm disgusted that someone in the caring profession can reduce a young girl to tears.
"The way my daughter was spoken to was outrageous"
