"The team were like a well oiled machine"

About: Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Accident & Emergency Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Orthopaedics (Ward 3C) Royal Hospital for Children (Glasgow) / Theatres, recovery and Anesthetics

(as a service user),

Obviously as parents we were very distressed, but from the moment we arrived at A&E, the doctors and nurses moved so quickly to get him seen to...they took great care of him, and made sure he was comfortable and got us to the ward pretty quickly.

The nurses in the ward were pre-emptive with his medicine when they could hear him crying in pain, and all of the staff included auxilleries actually looked after me almost as much as they did him at times!

The ortho surgeons were swift, knowledgeable and made me feel so at ease and calm about the surgery he would need which was great.

The anaesthetist again was patient, he took time to understand that my son had previously got really distressed getting gas and air before GA, so he made sure they got him some pre-meds to calm him so he didn't go through that same experience. The team were like a well oiled machine getting pre-med, gas and air, GA...was seamless and perfectly executed!! Very impressed.

From start to finish, I felt like he was cared for, respected and  every single part of the team who we met, was just brilliant. Thank you for taking care of our boy x

Dear Chabb44

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with us on Care Opinion.

We’re truly heartened to hear how well your son was cared for during what must have been an incredibly stressful time for your family. Your kind words mean a great deal to our teams in A&E, on the ward, and in theatre — from the doctors and nurses to the anaesthetist, orthopaedic surgeons, and support staff.

It’s especially encouraging to know that not only was your son treated with compassion and expertise, but that you too felt supported throughout his care. We firmly believe that looking after a child also means supporting their family, and we’re glad this came through in your experience.

We’ll make sure your feedback is shared with everyone involved — they’ll be proud to know their efforts made such a positive difference.

Wishing your son a smooth and speedy recovery.

Kind regards

Kevin
