"Emergency assessment and treatment"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres / Cardiology University Hospital Wishaw / Cardiology (Ward 4)

(as the patient),

I have a pacemaker for sick sinus syndrome. I recently had the battery box changed and the ventricular response to exercise altered marginally. As I had been on holiday no downloads of the new set up had been possible before my routine echo which had been ordered 2 years ago.

Whilst at Hairmyres , Yvonne and Paul realised my tachycardia was an issue. Despite the late hour- 8pm- they contacted the on call physiologist who talked them through the appropriate action. Once done, they set up an emergency appointment for me for my base hospital, Wishaw General Hospital, for the following morning.

In turn Jim and his staff further adjusted my pacemaker to achieve a stable and comfortable result.

I am indebted especially to Yvonne and Paul who were caring and professional and certainly soothed my angst as I had great  difficulty understanding the situation at first as I was virtually asymptomatic.
