"I took a lot from the service, which I would rate as excellent"

About: Adult Health & Support Services / Occupational Therapy

(as the patient),

Sent to prison for a crime I did not commit. Beforehand suffered from depression , anxiety, panic attacks. Done 2 years in prison and 2 in the community. Felt wronged, angry, depressed, scared and filled with hatred.

The service I received from OT was excellent. My OT was very professional, understanding and patient. I have found things extremely difficult to deal with the past four years and I know I can be very challenging to deal with due to my PTSD but I found the OT I was allocated was vey approachable, person-centred and she had a skill challenging my thought processes without me even knowing. She gave me loads of valuable information, relaxation techniques and other agencies that could support me. I took a lot from the service which I would rate as excellent.

The only downside to the service was the limited support that can be offered. I understand this though due to the huge amount of people trying to access services. I feel that valuable services such as the OT service are hugely underfunded. To me, coming from a professional background within care, I slowly found some balance through the input from my OT. Although I still suffer from PTSD, depression and anxiety alongside severe anger and nightmares, I am very slowly starting to accept my conditions which still vary from day to day. I still use the materials given to me by my allocated OT as well as the relaxation and sleeping techniques . I would not hesitate to re refer myself if things became too much but as of just now I am trying to manage my conditions from day to day.

I would highly recommend this service and its staff to everyone.

Dear luna96 I am very grateful to you for sharing this really powerful feedback about your own challenges and indeed the contact you had with Occupational Therapy. I wonder if you would mind sharing some detail about the area you received service, the name of the staff member or team which allows me to make sure we relay this directly back to them. Thank you and best wishes on your recovery journey.

Dear luna 96

Many thanks for sharing your experience of working alongside one of our occupational therapists in primary care, Andreia with such powerful feedback.

I am delighted to hear that the support offered from Andreia supported you to challenge your way of thinking with care and compassion. It sounds like you have gone on to then develop a range of tools to help you manage you health and wellbeing. I know it can take time to accept the impact conditions can have on day to day life and I am so pleased to hear you are slowly making progress with this.

All feedback regarding our service is gratefully received and I will make sure to pass this on to Andreia and the wider team.

May I take this opportunity to wish you well for the future,

Sam
