"Friendly, helpful and made to feel at ease"

About: Crediton Community Hospital / Speech and Language Therapy

(as the patient),

I had been having problems with swallowing after I had an operation. This may have been due to tubes being passed down my throat. I was referred to Kerry, at the Speech and Language Therapy Clinic, in January this year.

Kerry was very friendly and helpful and made me feel at ease. She listened to my symptoms and examined me carefully before explaining what the treatment consisted of. Kerry asked me to fill out a questionnaire regarding my symptoms. She showed me how to use an Iqoro device to exercise my throat muscles. She asked me to carry out a 14 week programme of using the Iqoro three times a day before meals.

During this period she made regular telephone consultations.

At the end of the programme my swallowing had improved to the extent that we agreed the exercises could be stopped. This was confirmed by my completing another questionnaire similar to the first one.
