"A minor op and major moment!"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / General Surgery Craigavon Area Hospital / Trauma Ward

(as the patient),

I had to have minor surgery to remove a foreign body that was lodged in my leg. I suppose I’d say I was both lucky and unlucky, because my surgery wasn’t very urgent I fasted twice without being called for theatre. While this was challenging and frustrating I was pleased to know that other people who needed operations more urgently were being seen sooner.

It was third time lucky, and Josepha, my surgeon did a brilliant and what seemed speedy job on my leg. The theatre team led by super anaesthetist Luciba, assisted by Eva, Amrita, Megan, Brian and Trish (maybe more) were fantastic and really could not have given me better care. They were so communicative throughout and ensured my treatment was world class. A minor op and major moment!

On the Trama Ward I was amazed by the team who looked after and treated me. My medical treatment and comfort were priorities and all staff created a very relaxing atmosphere. Shali, Carla, Laura, Shaneen, Lisa, Teresa, Feidhlm, Kacy, Anna, Lee and Tia (to name as many as I can) were all so good to me and every other person on the ward. They simply did not pause. Even though they were inundated with work and were navigating a new computerised system they had a beaming smile for everyone, thus embedding a lovely, positive atmosphere on the ward.

Over the five days several physiotherapists, doctors and surgeons came to see me for treatment and to carefully explain every aspect of my surgery. I’d like to thank Anthony, Sarah, Nmbike and Danish for their care and attention. A special thank you to Martin who explained what my recovery would be like and even took the time to offer consolation when surgery was postponed. The generosity with his time was remarkable.

I’d also like to extend my appreciation to Mr Bunn, my consultant. A brilliant person.

Thanks so much everyone.

Good afternoon,

My name is Rachel and I am the Ward Sister on the Trauma Ward. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am overwhelmed to read your message and appreciate the effort you have made to write these kind words. The staff all strive to ensure patients on our ward are provided with the highest standard of care and feel comfortable and at ease throughout their admission. I am pleased this seems to have been the case for you.

I will be sure to share your lovely feedback with all the staff and I know it will be greatly appreciated. As a manager it is wonderful to know the staff created a positive atmosphere and a pleasant experience for yourself and other patients during the introduction of our new computer system, which I recognise can be dauting for all.

I wish you well and a speedy recovery.

Best wishes,

Rachel
