"we felt listened to"

About: Countywide Community Care Service Delivery Unit / Integrated Neurology Service

(as a service user),

This was the second time we had met Donna, my husband's Parkinson's Nurse, the first being a couple of years ago.  As usual, she was on-time, dressed in a smart summer dress which helped very much to keep the meeting relaxed and informal.

Donna, really took the time to listen, but also asked appropriate questions to assess how she felt  one of my husband's medication could be adjusted in order to help his tremor which had got worse which was agreed between the three of us.

We also chatted about his sleep or lack of it and again Donna made a suggestion which could help

As a prescribing nurse, Donna was able to give my husband a prescription to take to the pharmacy immediately and this was followed up with a telephone call from the prescribing clerk at his GP surgery the following day to enquire if he needed a prescription for the medication, indicating that Donna had efficiently written to his GP immediately after our visit.

Donna also suggested a couple of exercises to try help prevent my husband becoming round shouldered and also suggested that he would benefit from a deep tissue massage.

Donna also made a suggestion to try which might enable my husband to get out the car more easily.  She also suggested checking out Carl Beech's rhymical wristband.  Donna asked that we keep a daily chart of symptoms following the increased dosage of one item of medication and introduction of another medication to try to help him sleep and she will call in a month's time to see how things are going.

Donna also left her mobile number to enable us to get in touch with her should there be any issues with the tweaking of the medication.

Donna also explained that there is a medication which can be prescribed to be taken once a day if a two-hour energy boost is required, but she hasn't prescribed that as yet as she didn't want to change too much of my husband's medication in one go.

Our visit was very thorough and helpful.  We really felt listened to and at no time did we feel that we were being rushed and I would consider that we had a least one hour of Donna's time.

Thank you Donna.

Thank you Charlotte51073 so much for taking the time to post this feedback about your husband's appointment. It is so lovely to read what a positive experience you had and how listened to you felt you were by Donna.

Everyone is hoping to give the best experience for patients and relatives as we try to support the challenge of navigating your condition and so it is wonderful to read you felt supported, and given time by Donna.

I have shared this with her as it is so important for her to hear the positive impact she has had on you both.

I wish you both luck and thanks again for sharing this.
