"Awaiting bloods"

About: Gynaecology / Early Pregnancy Assessment Clinic

(as a service user),

Attended ward for 2nd HCG bloods. Nursing staff welcomed me and showed me to side room where another patient was waiting.

An hour later, the doctor came in with tray, and started talking to the patient next to me, discussing their plan of care, to which I left the room to give that patient their dignity.

I then had bloods taken, without having my date of birth confirmed, or identity confirmed. And was told they would call in 2 hours. 7 hours later, still waiting, I called back and they said they would call right back.

I am a nurse so aware of emergencies etc in these wards, but the doctors were sitting in the room for 30 minutes while we sat waiting.

Dear melonrf47

Thank you for your feedback, we are sorry to hear of the issues and experience you describe when you attended Gynaecology Ward for early pregnancy bloods. As you will be aware, this is not the experience we wish for our patients.

We have shared your feedback with our clinical lead for emergency gynaecology, to share with all medical staff, to allow learning to be undertaken.

Thank you again.

Denise Marshall and Fiona McCallum, Senior Charge Nurses for Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy
