My wife had a rather awful looking cancerous growth on top of her shoulder and, after the consultant had seen it, we went to the community nurses at Loch Leven Health Centre for temporary dressings.
The growth had been marked as urgent, but, after 10 days, the nurses said that it was still growing, took photos and approached the G.P. to chase it up. We got a phone call that afternoon giving us a date for surgery in 3 days. Another 3 days later we went back to the community nurses who were a bit concerned about the appearance of the wound and took swabs. On our return visit, the wound was looking worse still but the results for the swabs were back. The nurses were fully aware of the implications and immediately asked a practice doctor to look at it and prescribe antibiotics for that particular bacteria.
Recently, on a Sunday, a nurse from Loch Leven Health Centre came to our house to change the dressings and the wound looked much improved. I would like to thank the Community Nurses for their kindness and efforts without which we might have been in a much worse position.
It is nice to know that we have such a reliable and knowledgeable team of professionals available to us.
