I unfortunately had a miscarriage last weekend which was scary and heartbreaking but I have nothing but high regard for every professional who was involved in my care. I unfortunately don't remember every name but I will try my best to name everyone I do remember as each and every person deserves recognition.
I attended GRI A+E both Saturday and Sunday with bleeding and cramping. On the Saturday from the nurse in triage, to the HCSW Jade who took my bloods and settled me in to the doctor Adam who checked me over everyone was kind, compassionate and a credit to their profession. I was regularly offered pain relief, me and my husband were included in decision making and everything that was happening was explained to us in a way that we could understand. On the Sunday we had to call NHS 24 as the pain was much worse and the SCN/midwife Ann was attentive and took my concerns seriously, which is what resulted in my 2nd A+E visit. The triage nurse was again very kind and managed to speed up our process so that rather than waiting in A+E we went right to ward 56. The nurse Caitlin was again very kind and attentive and had a lovely manner, and the doctor Rebha although clearly rushed off her feet with emergencies did not make us feel like we were wasting her time or that she needed to be elsewhere throughout our contact, again very kind and explained things very well. Thankfully I didn't need an inpatient stay as my bloods were fine and the pain and bleeding had settled significantly so we got to go home to mourn our loss.
We had attended the EPU on the Tuesday after to confirm the miscarriage was complete and the staff there were lovely as well and explained the process and next steps very well. I left the whole experience feeling like it definitely wasn't my fault it was just a cruel trick of nature and it should hopefully not have any bearing on my future fertility.
Every person involved in my care is a credit to the NHS and in such a high pressure understaffed overworked environment at no point did I feel like a burden or that what I was going through didn't matter, I truly feel cared for and expertly communicated with. No one particularly wants to be in hospital and my baby was very much wanted but everyone who was a part of my journey made it a little easier to bear. My husband and I are extremely grateful to you all.
