"Lack of access to vital medication"

About: General practices in Greater Glasgow & Clyde

(as a service user),

I am 76 years of age. I've been registered at my GP for over 15 years. In the last couple of years I have found the care has been negligent. I haven't been able to see a GP since January 2019. I've tried several times.

My latest issue is that the surgery is withholding my repeat prescription. I've tried to get the repeat prescription since mid April and they advised they didn't have it or send it to the pharmacy.

The pharmacy assisted to source this directly from the surgery, tried several times and numerous calls, the surgery advised they would do an urgent prescription. This was never made up and then in mid May two prescriptions appeared at the pharmacy dated end of April and beginning of May. So from mid April I had been left without the following medications. The pharmacy has given emergency short supply.

Metformin

Atrovastatin

Furosemide

Lansoprazole

Latanoprost

Lidocaine

Luforbec

Spironolactone

In addition to the above issue with withholding medication I have been left untreated for an adrenal gland tumor since January 2019. This was to be monitored and nothing happened until I pushed this, now had a scan last month with no results.

Dear pilingsxe83

Thank you for taking the time to get in touch.

I am very sorry to hear about your ongoing issue with your medication. GP practices are independent contractors, and they have their own system for managing feedback, concerns, and complaints. They are not registered to respond to feedback received via Care Opinion.

If you feel comfortable doing so, I would encourage you to contact the Practice Manager to discuss your experience. If you need support navigating the complaints process, the Patient Advice and Support Service (PASS) is available to assist you. You can contact them by telephoning 0800 917 2127 or through their website: https://pass-scotland.org.uk/

Thank you

Nicole
