"Trauma therapy works"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies) Thurrock Services / Inclusion Thurrock Psychological Therapies Service

(as a service user),

After having my second child, I realised that I was carrying a lot of anxiety and stress. Not only due to postpartum factors but trauma from my past. I was not sure who to confide in and what support was really out there. I had had CBT a few times before in my life and whilst those sessions helped, I did not like how there was a timeframe on treatment; I would speak with a therapist, but not even scratch the surface of my trauma before I was being discharged because my sessions were complete. As a result I would relapse and need even more therapy. It was a vicious cycle.

It was not until I spoke with a health care visitor that I truly acknowledged the state of my mental health and how glad I was that I did! It wasn’t long before I was contacted by the Inclusion Team to be triaged and waitlisted for treatment. I was not on the waitlist for long, thank God, and the therapist I was assigned was very attentive, helpful, personable and professional. The big question I had after my first session was how many sessions I was going to have and when the therapist said that there is no limit, I was immediately reassured. I didn’t feel like a quota had to be filled but that someone truly wanted to help me.

The sessions were intense but necessary and I feel like I had a lot of breakthrough. These sessions felt different. They were not surface level but intensive, holistic and reflective. I’d recommend this service to anyone who really wants to make a positive change in their mental health.

Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. It’s incredibly powerful to hear how you recognised the impact of both past trauma and postpartum experiences and took the brave step to reach out for support.

I’m really glad to hear that the service felt different for you this time. It’s great that you felt understood, supported, and not rushed through a process that deserves time and care.

Your feedback about the intensity and value of the sessions is deeply appreciated, and I’ll be sure to share your kind words with the team.

Wishing you all the very best,
