"Doing absolutely nothing to support us"

About: Children's Specialist Health Services / Neurodevelopmental Service (NDS)

(as a service user),

My daughter was referred to the neurodevelopmental team two years ago. My son was referred a year ago. To date I have received absolutely nothing and no support for either while myself and both children are drowning. My daughter has OCD and severe anxiety alongside suspected autism. She has no support for this as there is nothing available as a parent beyond a silver cloud course which made no difference. Her meltdowns are increasing in severity and ruining her life and everyone else's. My son is 3 and stereotypically autistic. He doesn't eat. I have had the nursery refer him for early intervention as he has no social skills or empathy apparently. He has severe ARFID and every day is a battle over food.

I'm a single parent trying to manage the needs of both on my own with nothing and noone to help me. It's absolutely ridiculous how much my children are being failed. Particularly my daughter who's likelihood of self harming increases by the day and I'm doing everything in my power to try to keep her on an even keel but it's just impossible. I can only hope and pray you don't end up with a dire result from doing absolutely nothing to support her or us.

Dear Parent,

I am sorry to read the challenges you have been experiencing with your children as you wait for a neurodevelopmental assessment. Unfortunately our waiting list is long, however we do have a range of supports available while you wait and I am happy to discuss these.

If you would like to contact me directly and I can look into your son's and daughter's case.

My contact number is 01698 687490.

Best regards

Suzanne Shields
