"Successful spinal surgery"

About: Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / General surgery Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital (Wonford) / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I am very grateful to Mr Budd and his team of surgeons for successful lumbar fusion surgery at the Royal Devon hospital orthopaedic centre. Mr Budd has excellent communication skills and he carefully explained the surgery to me in advance of the surgery.

In the week after the surgery a member of Mr Budd's team, including Amrut and Beatrice, visited me daily to check on my recovery. They worked hard with the Orthopaedic Centre ward doctor and nursing staff to resolve an issue I had of low blood pressure.

I had excellent nursing care from the Dyball Ward nursing team. The staff were caring, cheerful and encouraging which I really appreciated when I felt unwell in the days immediately after the surgery. All of the Dyball Ward team were helpful, and in particular Donna, Colette, Lucy, Tracy and Abhi were very helpful to me to mobilise after the operation.

The physio team were patient and very helpful in getting me walking. They were very encouraging and I was really pleased when I was able to pass the Stairs test.

I am responsible for monitoring overall service delivery, and the day to day running of both departments. I work closely with the Orthopaedic Consultants, Radiologists, Therapists, Trauma Nurse Practitioners, Orthopaedic Practitioners and Nursing staff to ensure cohesive care is delivered. I am very fortunate to have a dedicated team of staff, who work extremely hard to ensure patient safety is maintained, and that clinics run as smoothly as possible.

Dear Cmin,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such positive feedback on your recent Hospital admission.

I am very pleased to hear that the care that you received from Mr Budd (Spinal Consultant) to the wider Multi-disciplinary Team of Nurses and Therapists on the ward was of such high quality.

I will ensure that your comments regarding Mr Budd's interpersonal /communication skills is passed on to him, and that you felt well informed of the surgery that was planned. I am sure that a representative of the ward will most likely be in contact to comment on your feedback relating to the excellent nursing care that you received.

Wishing you all the best,

Kind regards,

Julia King

Clinical Nurse Manager

PEOC OPD.
