I had such a pleasant experience undergoing the procedure. I've never been to Stracathro Hospital, and after being on a wait list for removal of my fibroadenoma for 4 years, I was offered the option to have it surgically excised at Stracathro.
The central waiting list team helped arrange transport for me, as my partner doesn't drive - it was effortless and the volunteer driver taking me there (David) was so professional, kind and calming. Sadly the taxi company for the way home gave the nurses grief over the phone and took over two hours to collect me (after confirming they were on their way) which was the only negative experience I had.
The surgical ward is actually beautiful to be in as well - it was such a sunny day as well so me and the lady waiting next to me had a lovely chat admiring the view.
All the staff were wonderful - I have severe anxiety but they were so reassuring every step of the way, I couldn't have asked for more kindness.
My anaesthetist came and saw me beforehand, really taking the time to make sure I felt safe and comfortable. She offered additional sedation beforehand to help ease my anxiety, and it definitely helped so much.
All my details and important information (like my allergies) were double checked by everyone through every stage - it just made me feel so safe.
Both the surgeons were absolutely lovely as well - both meeting with me beforehand and answering all my questions. You don't expect surgeons to have such good and kind communication skills on top of their surgical ones.
The operation went very well - I'm writing this only a day after and I'm already feeling good and recovering well. I just really wanted to show my appreciation for such a wonderfully coordinated team, who made all this so pain-free, person-centred and effortless.
"Such a wonderfully coordinated team"
