"My injury"

About: Paediatrics / Paediatric surgery

(as the patient),

I got a bad injury at my football game a stud went through my knee and it was sliced open it was really sore I was screaming and crying when I saw the cut, it got worse, a really bad stingy pain.

I got rushed to the hospital in the back of the car and had 5 paramedics work on me, I had a cannula, a blood pressure strap and needles I don’t remember much after that until about two hours later I was lying in the hospital bed with some kind nurses that started to speak to me. This really made me fell calm in all the chaos.

I was then taken for an x ray where I luckily found out I didn't break anything but I had a serious cut injury meaning I would have to go home and come back the next day for theatre surgery.

I was nervous and didn’t sleep well through the night but I came in to the hospital the morning after and was greeted right away and taken to my room where some nice nurses where waiting for me. I then had a couple of surgeons come and speak to me about what the operation would be like. I was still nervous at this point but I had a lot of nice nurses my mum and dad there to comfort me.

I went in for the operation and met a couple of the doctors they where very reassuring that it would go well and I trusted them as well as my mum and dad I got put on anaesthesia through a cannula in my hand after that I fell asleep almost instantly and I remember waking up about 3 hours later with a really sore leg but it all went well.

They flushed out the wound and gave me 5 metal stitches, I got home about 2 hours after waking up and I am on my 10th day of recovery now and I am felling much better thank you to everyone in the hospital that helped me through my injury

Nurse Laura was amazing and Nurse Fiona was so lovely to me. The anaesthetist Irene was so nice.
