After speaking with a close family member they have asked me to pass on this information. They started by telling me me that although they were not angry or upset all the time they believe that it would be helpful if the care home kept them up to date all the time, they have left in the dark about medication changes, wasn’t told about Drs visits, found out that there husband had been admitted into hospital without informing them, this wasn’t all the time they went onto stress, it was dependent on the staff that were on duty at the time.
She went on an added that they were advised not to visit the family member because new carpets were being laid, also that they had been told they were considering moving them to another home because staff had tried to put the family member in a hoist the patient became very distressed lashed out but didn’t hit anybody. It was also discussed by the family that they would like there parent to be seen more just hourly with a quick hello. They understand that staffing levels are sometimes small. But that shouldn’t affect care. The patient has already been told by a senior staff member at another home that they were faking it.
We went onto talk about The Care home Team, they informed me that they hadn’t had much to do with them but wanted to know that if any staff member from the team were to visit there husband would they let the wife know please, they understand that this isn’t always feasible but, if female staff were to visit there husband the wife would be able too settle him down if he became agitated. They finished with saying thank you but still felt let down at times.
