I was called to the hospital in the afternoon as my wife had deteriorated and they thought that she was approaching the end of her life. I could not get parked in the main car park as it was full. It was visiting time at the hospital. I could not find another parking space so had to park half on a painted space beside a disabled space and partially on a pavement. It was down a hill from the main car park. The pavement was not blocked. A wheelchair could reasonably get past on the pavement.
I stayed with my wife and she passed away in the early hours of the morning. I returned to my car. The car park was empty. I was distraught at having lost my wife and when I got to the car I realised I had been given a parking ticket on my windscreen. Additionally the parking attendants had put three A5 stickers on my car windows/mirrors. One was on my driver's wing mirror obscuring the view, one was on the driver's window, so I couldn't see the wing mirror, and one was on my back window. I had to stand in the early hours and remove the stickers so I could drive home.
After the distress of losing my wife, I could not believe that the parking attendants had made it dangerous for me to drive home, as the griminess of the large stickers had left such a tacky, gummy residue I wouldn't see out my driver wing mirror.
I understand the need for rules regarding parking around the hospital, but perhaps given that there is inadequate parking for staff, patients and their families a bit of grace wouldn't go a miss. Especially as no one parks in an inappropriate space unless they are desperate.
