"My H-eds physiotherapy journey"

About: South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust / Condition Management Programme

(as a service user),

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous going into my first appointment. My previous experience throughout the years haven't been very encouraging, after being told to just do yoga, walk off the pain, or being handed a leaflet on how to manage the pain through exercises that I could not preform due to how much pain I was in, or the pain that it would cause me afterwards.

After meeting Gillian however, my mind was completely at ease from the second I walked through the door. Not only did she listen intently and understood my difficulties, but she worked with me, allowing me to only do what I could without pushing myself too hard. She advised me on what aids I could use that would ease the pain and help stabilise my joints such as foot arch supports, Kinesiology tape, ice packs, and walking aids. These aids have made such a massive difference to me and my quality of life.

At every appointment she would first ask me how I'd been since she'd last seen me and if I was experiencing pain in a certain area. That's what we would work on that day. Gillian has built up my confidence so much that now no longer see my disability as disabling. Instead, I focus on what I can do, or what I need to do to overcome the challenges I face. I honestly cant thank her enough for everything she has done for me and will miss our appointments.

Dear H-eds reader

Thank you so much for sharing your experience of the physiotherapy sessions provided by Gillian. I am delighted that your quality of life and confidence have increased and the outcome that you no longer see your disability as disabling is wonderful.

Your care opinion has been shared with Gillian and everyone in the Condition Management Programme and we really appreciate you sharing your experience. We know this will resonate with many people who are in similar situation to what you describe before and when first attending and you capture what we aim to provide and will provide hope to others that support is available and positive changes are possible.

Your bravery in taking the first step and participating and all the changes and effort you put in during and between sessions have lead to your improvements. All the very best as you continue to use all the skills, tools, aids and strategies you have developed.

Best wishes

Jane
