"Experience at Early pregnancy Assessment Unit"

About: Gynaecology / Gynaecology Suite

(as a service user),

I had an absolutely awful experience from a Midwife at the Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit, Ninewells. I felt so rushed and completely disrespected and patronised.

Initially I told the midwife I was told to come for a scan. They then made a facial expression which made me feel like I was being a bother, rather than them calling me for a scan.

I was asked by another nice Midwife  on phone a few days ago to come for scan as I had been spotting Pink/ Brown consistently, raising my anxiety during this pregnancy. I am only 9 weeks and have gone through quite traumatic early pregnancy losses including an emergency ectopic surgery.

Unfortunately, it was the midwife I saw this time who had also dealt with me previously, which still is in my sad memory. That time I didn't complain or anything as I was in such a terrible state myself emotionally due to emergency surgery.

The midwife seems to treat me badly when I am alone, which is totally wrong as they treated me slightly better when I was with my partner in my other visit during miscarriage situation. They asked me not to look at my phone, asked me to sit on a specific chair (totally unnecessary) and treated me like a kid with total controlling attitude.

I wasn't too shocked at their behaviour as I had encountered it previously. Due to my short term memory issues these days due which I think is due to stress and IVF meds, I had to check my phone history to see when I had phoned the clinic as they asked me the question, but they shut me down and rudely told me not to check my phone & I totally felt like I was bullied by them.

I wouldn't put a complaint for tiny matters but I have had enough from this midwife, as it's been twice already in my experience.  I can write another awful experience I had during my Ectopic situation with this , but will share this first as it's fresh in my memory.

I hope no other women has had to face this behaviour towards any other ethnic minority patient like me, hence I am sharing my story.
