"Able to break down complicated maters"

About: ICST (Community Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy) / ICST (Community Nursing, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy) Clydesdale

(as a relative),

My grandmother had taken unwell and was now receiving palliative care from the District Nursing team.

My family were struggling to come to terms with my grandmother's demise.

My uncle who is a retired anaesthetist was particularly confrontational with the nurses who attended and would challenge them on what medication they intended to use.

One nurse in particular had an initial difficult meeting with my uncle. My uncle questioned why certain medication was used but this particularly nurse, Joe, gladly explained the modes of action and how it would be used to benefit my grandmother.

Most of us in the family are medical professionals and we were impressed with how he broke down complicated matters and make it easy to understand.

My uncle who is usually a negative personality was very impressed with Joe and questioned him on his knowledge. We were all reassured that Joe was a research chemist before joining Nursing and I'm sure that if he can impress my difficult to please uncle, then he's an asset in his post.

Dear Neves529,

I was very sorry to hear about the recent death of your grandmother and would like to extend my condolences to you and your family.

Caring for a loved one at the end of life is understandably so emotional for families, but can also be a privilege too.

I was pleased to hear that Joe’s communication skills, knowledge and professionalism was helpful to you all as a family, and that this enabled you to develop trust in his ability to care for your grandmother.

I have passed your thoughtful feedback to Joe and the team, who informed me that it was a privilege to have cared for your grandmother. The team would like you to know that you are in their thoughts.

Kind regards

Karen
