"Horrible staff"

About: Inverclyde Royal Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a relative),

My mother in law attended A&E IRH recently after a RTC, I work in a hospital myself and went down to sit with her, as she was called, I felt the member of staff showed absolutely no compassion called her and wouldn’t let me in with my mother in law when she was already badly shaken.

My mother in law asked if I could come in and they said absolutely not. So I waited and she came out 10 minutes later as she was just given painkillers and told to wait even though she had intense neck pain and chest pain.

Approximately 2-3 hours later she was discharged with a neck sprain after being asked to move her head side to side and then being told it’s ok for her to go home.

No x-ray or any neuro observations or anything. Extremely disappointed in the service and the way the nurse spoke to my mother in law.

Dear ADd9491

I am sorry to hear of your recent negative experience in our ED department. This is certainly not the standard we aim to achieve. I would like to invite you to contact me with your mother-in-law's details so that I can investigate this further. My details are noted below. In the meantime please accept my apologies and please pass on to your mother-in law. I hope she is well and now recovering at home.

Kind regards

Alison McKinnon
